In a world filled of overproduced records with overused samples and mind melting synths, Justin Nozuka manages to tone it down while still bringing weight to his music. There's beauty in simplicity, and Canadian Singer/Songwriter Justin Nozuka knows that, and fully takes advantage of it on “Daydreams & Endless Nights”. Across this album, Nozuka's vocal range and strength is the focal point, making the simple instrumentals the backdrop to Nozukas poignant songwriting.
The best example of this, (and my favorite track on the album) is “Dwell”. Snappy guitar plucks combined with Nozuka's haunting vocal echos creates an eerie sonic landscape, perfect for Nozuka's existential lyrics. “Not sure if i'm feeding into/ True Angels or Jokers/ Or high rank demons from Hell”, Nozuka sings softly into the spectral space he creates. The instrumental mixing allows you to hear the guitarist's fingers slide across the guitar neck, contributing to the authenticity you hear across the album.
On “444”, Justin Nozuka playfully rhymes to his love interest over a dreamy piano melody “We can talk day and night / We can go for a hike / Ride down the street on our bikes”. These may seem like nursery rhymes, but I think they deliver the pristine feeling of child-like joy one feels when falling in love.
Nozuka excels at delivering palpable emotions throughout this album; emotions any listener with anxieties about life can relate to. Listen here : https://open.spotify.com/album/5a1zVo7jV6ctwLQt2vqAFb?si=lBFdNjG0SNmvHhxwAyq-wQ
